Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.-
Corresponding authors must ensure all items are completed before submission.
1. Manuscript Preparation
☐ Manuscript is original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere
☐ Written in UK English, clear and concise
☐ Includes all required sections: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, References, Figures/Tables, Supplementary Material
☐ Figures and tables are numbered, captioned, and high-resolution
☐ References follow Harvard style with DOIs included
2. Authorship & Contributions
☐ All authors meet JBESED authorship criteria
☐ Author order reflects relative contributions and is agreed upon by all authors
☐ Contributor Roles (CRediT) specified for each author
☐ Corresponding author assumes responsibility for manuscript submission and communication
3. Ethics & Compliance
☐ Ethical approval obtained for research involving humans, animals, or sensitive ecosystems
☐ Conflicts of interest fully disclosed
☐ Funding sources declared, including grant numbers and funder roles
☐ Manuscript free from plagiarism, data fabrication, or falsification
☐ Compliance with relevant national and international regulations and standards
4. Data & Open Science
☐ Data, code, models, and protocols shared or justified if restricted
☐ Data adheres to FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)
☐ Supplementary files properly referenced in the manuscript
☐ Figures/images accurately reflect original data; adjustments comply with JBESED standards
5. Preprints, Conferences & AI
☐ Any preprints or conference papers disclosed and cited
☐ Manuscript contains substantial new content beyond preprints/conference versions
☐ Any AI use in writing, analysis, simulations, or visualisation disclosed; human authors retain responsibility
6. Submission Requirements
☐ Manuscript prepared in Word (.doc/.docx) or LaTeX format
☐ All required files uploaded: manuscript, title page, figures, tables, supplementary material, checklists, Data Availability Statement
☐ All authors have approved the submission
☐ Conflicts of interest and funding statements included
7. Post-Submission Responsibilities
☐ Respond promptly to editor and reviewer requests
☐ Provide additional data or clarifications if requested
☐ Cooperate with corrections, retractions, or ethical investigations if needed

By submitting, the corresponding author confirms that all items above have been addressed and takes responsibility for the accuracy, integrity, and ethical compliance of the manuscript.
